re-think twice and ask for advice!

Sustainable interior design can be achieved by considering the materials you use in your home, but also by first thinking carefully about which interior suits you now and in the next 10 to 15 years. Don’t get swept up in fleeting trends, but think carefully about what your basic interior should consist of, in order to invest in that. Sustainable interior design is possible on any budget. You can have for a sustainable interior in various ways, either separately or in combination, by choosing:

sustainable materials

• such as linen, organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, lyocell, wood with an FSC certification, eco-friendly paints, sustainable flooring like ceramic tiles or marmoleum.

recycled materials:

• you can buy second-hand products from thrift stores, flea markets, or online platforms like Whoppah, Re-Living, Marktplaats, or Facebook (giveaway) groups in your area.
• you can buy products made from recycled materials, such as curtain fabrics made from plastic waste collected from the sea, or upholstery fabrics made from old textiles woven into new fabric, or wood and metal that have been reused.

high-quality materials (durable in the sense of longevity):

• investing in furniture pieces like a sofa from Gelderland, Leolux, Artifort, or Montis ensures you choose a product that will last 10-15 years or even much longer, and can be reupholstered to extend its lifespan.
• by opting for Dutch or at least European-made products, you’re already making a sustainable choice because the entire production chain takes place within the Netherlands or Europe. This is much better for the environment and has the added benefit of supporting local employment.

leasing:

• several companies offer leasing options for furniture, mattresses, baby items, and much more. This is particularly beneficial for products you only need for a certain phase in life. It’s also a good solution if you want a high-quality design piece but your budget doesn’t allow for a purchase. Of course, the best combination is leasing sustainable products.
